Gulf of Guinea: Togo Navy Repels Attack on Oil Tanker

The attempted piracy attack on the MT Endo Ponente in the Gulf of Guinea has been successfully foiled. On Friday, 28 August 2025, a Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) team from the Togo Navy boarded the vessel and confirmed that. All crew members are safe and accounted for, no material damage was sustained onboard. The vessel is now under the custody of the Togo Navy, which promptly reported the incident to the Multinational Maritime Coordination Centre (MMCC) Zone E under the Yaoundé Architecture for maritime security. Zone E covers Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and Niger Republic. This operation highlights the importance of regional cooperation. Widow Using Fake Pregnancy to Traffic Cocaine Arrested by NDLEA in Lagos

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a 50-year-old widow, Mrs. Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike, for attempting to traffic cocaine disguised as a fake pregnancy. Ezewuike was arrested on Friday, 22nd August 2025, at a bus terminal in Jibowu, Yaba, Lagos, while preparing to travel to Abuja with 1.3 kilograms of cocaine concealed in a pregnancy prosthetic. A subsequent raid on her residence at Ago Palace, Okota, Lagos, led to the recovery of 200 grams of cutting agents used for processing illicit drugs. The suspect, a fashion designer and mother of one, confessed during interrogation that she inherited the illegal trade from her late husband, who was also involved in drug trafficking. The NDLEA spokesperson confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that Ezewuike will be charged in court upon completion.

Idiroko Command Seizes Contraband Worth Over N1.4 Billion at Border

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Area Command, has recorded a major breakthrough in its anti-smuggling operations with the seizure of contraband goods valued at more than ₦1.4 billion along the Idiroko border. The seizures, carried out over the past six weeks, include a luxury Rolls-Royce car, 4,424 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 50 sacks and 1,936 parcels of cannabis sativa, 105 used tyres, 21 bales of second-hand clothing, and 6,400 litres of petrol. Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, described the operation as a decisive strike against economic saboteurs. He revealed that the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the items stood at ₦1,401,531,923.95, a “huge economic loss to criminal elements.” In addition to enforcement, the Command reported significant progress in revenue collection. Lagos Pastor Arrested for Smuggling Tonnes of Cannabis from Ghana

A self-styled prophet, Adefolusho Aanu Olasele. a.k.a. Abbas Ajakaiye founder of The Turn of Mercy Church in Lekki, has been arrested by the NDLEA for allegedly running a cross-border cannabis pipeline from Ghana to Nigeria. Captured on August 3 after months on the run, Olasele is accused of masterminding two major drug hauls totaling 900kg of “Ghana Loud” cannabis, smuggled via waterways. Olasele, who had twice evaded arrest, was captured on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his Lekki, Lagos church. The NDLEA linked him to two major seizures: 200kg of “Ghana Loud” cannabis at Okun Ajah beach on June 4, and 700kg from a delivery van on July 6. He allegedly confessed to smuggling the drugs via waterways. Importers and licensed customs agents had raised concerns over delays in uploading Product Certificates for Form M and SONCAP documents, a requirement for processing import documentation. Drug fight:Lagos Couple Sentenced to 22.5 Years for Cannabis Trafficking

A businessman and his wife have been sentenced to a combined 22.5 years in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos for trafficking over 414 kilograms of cannabis sativa, also known as skunk. Justice Deinde Dipeolu handed down the sentences on Ajah Johnson Uchenna and his wife, Rosemary Uchenna, following their arrest during anti-narcotics raids conducted in June and July. The operations led to the discovery of large quantities of the illegal substance at multiple locations linked to the couple. Rosemary Uchenna received the heavier sentence of 17 years, while her husband, Johnson Uchenna, was sentenced to 5.5 years. However, the court offered Mr. Uchenna the option of paying a ₦1 million fine in lieu of his prison term on one count of the charge.
