The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, has commissioned the Bashir Adewale Adeniyi Analytics Centre for Excellence at the Apapa Area Command as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen data-driven operations and modernise customs administration.

The commissioning ceremony took place on Tuesday, 10 March 2026, at the Nigeria Customs Service Apapa Area Command.

Speaking at the event, Adeniyi emphasised the critical role of credible data in global trade and customs administration. According to him, modern customs operations must rely on accurate data to support effective risk management and operational efficiency.

"Data is the new currency of international trade, and we value data a lot because it is the backbone of our risk management engine. We cannot claim to have a modern customs administration if we do not have credible data to support and drive our operations,” Adeniyi said.

The Comptroller-General commended the Customs Area Controller of Apapa Command, Emmanuel Oshoba, and his team for initiating the project. He also urged officers to ensure that intelligence generated from data analysis is effectively translated into practical operational outcomes.

In his welcome address, Comptroller Oshoba noted that the new facility houses the Command’s Customs Intelligence Unit as well as a clinic for officers, highlighting the Service’s commitment to technology-driven enforcement and improved staff welfare.

"This infrastructure is a direct reflection of the vision of our Comptroller-General to leverage modern technology and analytics to fight smuggling, secure our nation, and facilitate legitimate trade,” Oshoba said.

Following the commissioning ceremony, the Comptroller-General toured the facility and inspected the cargo scanning site within the command.
He reassured compliant traders and investors of the Service’s continued commitment to trade facilitation, transparency, and predictability in cargo clearance processes, aimed at improving efficiency and supporting legitimate business activities.
