NSC Unveils Enterprise Content Management System: A Major Digital Breakthrough for Nigeria’s Maritime Sector
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) marked a significant stride toward full digital transformation as it officially launched its Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) in Abuja. The initiative is being celebrated as a major step in the Federal Government’s wider plan to modernise public-service operations and strengthen the ease of doing business across the country.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, led the commendations, describing the ECMS as a transformative tool that promises to reduce administrative bottlenecks and enhance the quality and speed of public-service delivery. He urged Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to learn from the Council’s proactive digital leap.
Also speaking at the event, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, underscored the relevance of the initiative at a time when global maritime operations are increasingly driven by technology. He noted that the Shippers’ Council’s adoption of digital systems aligns with national aspirations to build a competitive, transparent, and efficient maritime sector. According to him, the ECMS launch “strengthens the foundation for more efficient service delivery” while advancing the Ministry’s broader reform agenda.
In her remarks, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, applauded the NSC for being the first agency to invite her to an ECMS launch, a move she described as symbolic of the Council’s leadership in digital governance. She explained that the system creates a unified information ecosystem that reduces delays, prevents document loss, and improves collaboration across departments. She further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to achieving a fully digital and paperless public service by the end of 2025, adding that continuous staff training and digital literacy would remain central to this journey.
For the NSC, the ECMS represents more than a technological upgrade. it is a cornerstone of its internal transformation agenda. Executive Secretary and CEO, Dr. Pius Akutah, MON, emphasised that the new platform would eliminate outdated manual processes and long-standing administrative hurdles, fully aligning the Council with the Federal Government’s digital mandate. He expressed gratitude to the SGF, Minister, Head of Service, and stakeholders whose contributions made the project possible, and encouraged staff to embrace the new system wholeheartedly to unlock its full value.
Stakeholders and industry observers who attended the ceremony commended the Council for its pioneering initiative and expressed readiness to support the system’s wider adoption across MDAs.
The launch of the ECMS reinforces the Nigerian Shippers’ Council’s position as a forward-thinking economic regulator, committed to innovation, transparency, and superior service delivery. As Nigeria moves steadily toward a digitally enabled public-service environment, initiatives like this signal a promising shift toward greater efficiency and competitiveness in the maritime sector and beyond.
