PTML Command Gets New Comptroller: Efficiency and Enforcement Top Agenda
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has appointed Comptroller Joe Anani as the new Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command, following recent deployments approved by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.
Anani took over from Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) Tenny Mankini Daniyan at a brief handover ceremony and pledged to build on the successes achieved by his predecessor, particularly in revenue collection, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling operations.
He commended the rollout of the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), popularly known as B’Odogwu, under Daniyan’s leadership, describing it as a landmark reform that must be further improved.
The new CAC highlighted compliance as the backbone of efficient port operations. He noted that PTML currently holds a record of releasing compliant Roll-on/Roll-off consignments within two hours, and hinted at the possibility of achieving even faster clearance with greater stakeholder cooperation.
“Compliance ensures adherence to regulations, reduces delays, mitigates risks, and fosters trust among trading partners. It is a win-win for everyone,” he said.
Anani also stressed that non-compliance would attract penalties such as demand notices, delays, seizures, or arrests.
Reaffirming the CGC’s policy, Comptroller Anani vowed to enforce zero tolerance for smuggling at PTML. He assured stakeholders of his accessibility, both physically and virtually, encouraging open engagement to improve efficiency.
“My office is without a door. I shall be accessible to all in our collective quest to sustain PTML as a model port of excellence,” he added.
Stakeholders at the event praised ACG Daniyan for his outstanding leadership and for steering B’Odogwu from pilot phase to full deployment.
Otunba Frank Ogunojemite, President of the Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON), described Daniyan as “a man whose records speak volumes positively.”
Chief Charles Nwarrienne, Chairman of ANLCA PTML Chapter, said Daniyan deserved “a certificate of project completion” for consolidating the system’s success.
With Comptroller Anani now at the helm, PTML is expected to consolidate its position as a model command for security, efficiency, and diligent trade facilitation.
