Comptroller Wale Adenuga Assumes Leadership of Seme Customs, Vows to Make Border Nigeria’s Pride
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Seme Area Command has officially welcomed a new Customs Area Controller (CAC) as Comptroller Wale Adenuga assumed leadership of the Command on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. The ceremony, held at the ECOWAS Joint Border Post, Seme-Krake, marked a seamless transition of authority witnessed by top security officials, community leaders, stakeholders in trade and transport, and members of the media.
In his maiden address, Comptroller Adenuga commended his predecessor, ACG Oramalugo, for his impactful tenure and pledged to build on his legacy. He made it clear that his leadership would place trade facilitation at the core of operations.
“Trade facilitation is my keyword. When stakeholders make proper declarations, their consignments will leave Customs control within the shortest possible time. The more we facilitate trade, the more revenue we generate and the less smuggling we have,” he said.
The new Customs chief emphasized synergy with sister agencies, including the Nigeria Police, DSS, Immigration, NDLEA, the Nigerian Military, NAFDAC, and others, promising a united front against smuggling and cross-border crime. He also stressed the importance of community engagement, assuring traditional rulers, the Badagry youth, and the media that his “doors remain open.”
Adenuga further pledged discipline, accountability, and leading by example, adding that his priority is to make Seme Border a symbol of pride for Nigeria. He acknowledged the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), who also serves as President of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council, vowing to make him proud through outstanding performance.
In his farewell remarks, ACG Oramalugo described the moment as one of “mixed emotions” — gratitude for God’s faithfulness and his promotion, yet nostalgia for the strong bonds built during his time in Seme. He highlighted notable achievements under his leadership, including:
Sustained suppression of smuggling with significant seizures of prohibited goods.
Improved revenue collection and enhanced trade facilitation for legitimate businesses.
Strengthened inter-agency collaboration and deeper community engagement.
He also assured traditional rulers, the Badagry youth, and the media of open communication: “My doors remain open.”
He thanked the CGC and management team for their support, appreciated his officers for their loyalty and discipline, and urged stakeholders to give “even greater support” to his successor.
The event also featured goodwill messages from heads of sister agencies, including Immigration, Shippers Council, NDLEA, and FRSC, all pledging to work hand-in-hand with the new CAC.
The ceremony concluded with a collective commitment by all stakeholders to strengthen revenue generation, combat smuggling, enhance security, and make cross-border trade at Seme more seamless than ever before.
