Tincan Customs Rakes in N747 Billion in H1 2025, Marks Nearly 30% Revenue Growth

The Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is off to a strong start in 2025, recording a revenue haul of N747.07 billion in the first half of the year remarkable 29.85% increase compared to the same period in 2024

In a statement by the Command's Public Relations Officer, Oscar E. Ivera, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, attributed this achievement to improved operational strategies, robust stakeholder collaboration, and the deployment of digital tools like the innovative B'odogwu clearance system.

Break down on how the Revenue was ramped up over the first six months are as following in January 2025 N116.41 billion (up from N88.43 billion in January 2024),  for February: N103.25 billion (up from N100.25 billion), March: N128.27 billion, April: N145.02 billion, May: N128.45 billion, June: N125.68 billion (vs. N83.19 billion in June 2024).

With these numbers, the Command hit 98.03% of its projected revenue target for H1 2025 in review

A key driver of this growth has been the new B'odogwu clearance system, through which the Command processed 3,450 Single Goods Declarations (SGDs) and successfully exited 2,749 entries.

This digitization push has been supported by comprehensive stakeholder training sessions, conducted both online and on-site  aimed at boosting efficiency and compliance.

On the logistics front, 282 vessels docked at the port in Q1 alone, delivering goods ranging from bulk wheat and sugar to lab chemicals, malt, and drilling rods.

Tincan Customs also chalked up major victories in its fight against smuggling, Major Seizures: Drugs, Arms, and Ammunition

Working alongside the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Command intercepted illicit drugs worth over N8.05 billion, including: 1,735 packets of Cannabis Indica (over 1,000 kg), 128 packets of Cannabis Indicate and97 packets of crystal meth

In a separate operation, officers uncovered a cache of arms and ammunition hidden in a 40ft container of used vehicles. Items seized included: 2 pistols, 134 rounds of live and blank ammunition, 5 empty magazines, 2 handcuffshandcuffs and a small iron flashlight

The suspects along with the contraband  were handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS) for further investigation.

Comptroller Onyeka stressed that stakeholder engagement is of crucial importance in relationship
to the Command’s ongoing success. Through active dialogue with terminal operators, freight agents, government bodies, civil society organizations, and industry leaders, the Command has fostered a more transparent and cooperative port environment.

Regular press briefings and public forums also ensure the public stays informed on key developments.

Onyeka praised the visionary leadership of Comptroller General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, recently appointed as Chairman of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council , a milestone he described as a “divinely inspired success.”

He applauded the CGC’s unwavering support and urged all officers to remain professional, courageous, and committed.

“The Command’s success hinges on your collective contributions,” Onyeka said, commending his team’s dedication, discipline and collective contribution.
