The Nigerian Ports Economic Regulatory Agency (NPERA) has sought strategic collaboration with Danish maritime institutions to strengthen port economic regulation, enhance trade facilitation, and improve institutional capacity in Nigeria's maritime sector.

The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NPERA, Dr. Akutah Pius, made the call during a meeting with Danish Maritime (Danske Maritime) in Copenhagen as part of engagements by the Nigerian delegation currently on an official visit to Denmark.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Akutah said the Federal Government's ongoing economic reforms have placed greater emphasis on trade and the marine and blue economy as critical drivers of economic diversification and sustainable growth.

According to him, Nigeria is working to strengthen the institutional and regulatory frameworks needed to create a transparent, fair and competitive business environment for operators in the maritime sector.
He noted that the establishment of NPERA represents a major milestone in the country's efforts to improve port economic regulation and enhance the competitiveness of Nigerian ports.

Dr. Akutah explained that the Agency's mandate goes beyond tariff and pricing regulation, stressing that NPERA is also focused on promoting efficient port services, fair competition, improved trade processes and sustainable private-sector participation.

The NPERA boss identified capacity building, institutional strengthening, regulatory best practices, technology transfer and knowledge exchange as key areas where the Agency is seeking collaboration with Danish institutions and maritime industry stakeholders.

He further emphasized the Agency's commitment to adopting global best practices and building the institutional capacity required to position NPERA among the leading port economic regulatory agencies in the world.

The meeting formed part of wider engagements during the visit of the Nigerian delegation led by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, to deepen bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and Denmark.

The visit is expected to open new opportunities for investment, knowledge sharing and strategic partnerships aimed at advancing the growth of Nigeria's marine and blue economy sector.
