Leadership Change at MMAC: Otunla Assumes Command, Pledges Higher Standards



The Murtala Muhammed Airport Command (MMAC) of the Nigeria Customs Service has entered a new chapter as Comptroller Godwin Otunla officially took over leadership on Thursday, 27 November 2025. He succeeds Comptroller Michael Awe, who bowed out of service after a distinguished career marked by discipline, dedication, and exceptional contributions to national revenue growth.

During the handover ceremony, Comptroller Otunla praised his predecessor’s remarkable legacy, describing Awe as “an excellent officer with high standards of discipline.” He emphasized that the foundation laid by Awe would serve as a springboard for the command’s future achievements.


 Comptroller Otunla In his inaugural address unveiled a strategic agenda anchored on three key pillars:

Enhanced trade facilitation

Improved revenue generation

Strengthened anti-corruption measures


He pledged to uphold professionalism, integrity, and transparency, noting that the command must continue to be a model of efficiency.
“Together, we shall raise the bar of performance and institutional integrity,” he assured officers and stakeholders.

The outgoing controller,  Comptroller Michael Awe (Rtd),n his valedictory remarks expressed deep pride in the command’s accomplishments under his leadership particularly in revenue performance, security enhancement, and trade facilitation. He expressed confidence that MMAC would achieve even greater feats under Comptroller Otunla.

“I am proud of what we have accomplished together, and I'm confident that the command will achieve greater heights and milestones under the new leadership,” Awe said.

He also extended heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for their unwavering support throughout his tenure.



The highlight of the ceremony was the symbolic handover of the command’s flag to Comptroller Otunla signifying a smooth transfer of authority. Senior officers, stakeholders, and guests witnessed the moment, marking the beginning of a new era for the MMAC.

With a renewed vision and leadership committed to excellence, the Murtala Muhammed Airport Command is poised for strengthened operations and even greater national impact
