NPA Receives Transparency Award from National Assembly Public Accounts Committees
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has received a prestigious Transparency and Accountability Award from the Public Accounts Committees (PAC) of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, in recognition of its unwavering commitment to transparency, fiscal discipline, and audit compliance.
The award was presented at the National Conference on Public Accounts and Fiscal Governance, held in Abuja a high-level forum that brought together lawmakers, anti-corruption agencies, civil society groups, and financial experts to explore strategies for strengthening Nigeria’s public finance framework.
In their joint commendation, the leadership of the Senate and House PACs applauded the NPA’s consistent track record of financial discipline and cooperation with audit processes.
“The Nigerian Ports Authority has set a benchmark for other public institutions,” said Hon. Bamidele Salami, Chairman of the House PAC. “Their approach to audit compliance and transparent financial reporting is not just commendable, it is exemplary.”
Senator Matthew Urhoghide, former Chairman of the Senate PAC, added:
“In a time when public trust in institutions is critical, the NPA has demonstrated what institutional integrity looks like. This award is a well-deserved recognition of their proactive support for accountability mechanisms.”
Receiving the award on behalf of the NPA, Ms. Vivian Richard Edet, Executive Director of Finance and Administration, who represented the Managing Director, Dr. Abubakar Dantosho, expressed gratitude and reaffirmed the Authority’s resolve to maintain the highest standards of governance.
“This recognition is not just an award ,it is a call to deepen our commitment,” she said. “We remain steadfast in our resolve to uphold transparency and efficiency in managing Nigeria’s maritime economy.”
The Committees also acknowledged the NPA’s vital role in facilitating the success of the national fiscal governance dialogue:
“The Authority’s contributions were pivotal in making this policy dialogue a reality,” the PAC leaders jointly stated. “They have proven to be more than just a regulators, they are active enablers of reform in the public finance space.”
This award reinforces the NPA’s position as a leading public institution championing accountability, and signals a positive shift in the narrative surrounding governance within Nigeria’s public service ecosystem.
